What I learned from crew that applies to my work today:
1. Teamwork is a mix of different personalities. Just like rowing, everyone has their duty and clear communication is key for moving forward.
2. Rowing has taught me tenacity and how to apply it in unexpected situations, as soon as COVID became present I wanted to do my part in helping my community.
3. When asked about what role I would feel comfortable with in regards to COVID work (the drive thru recruitment), just like with rowing, I answered that they can put me anywhere you need a job to get done, it will get done.

EMT, California Health Corps
Ratanee is currently working with the California Health Corps at the Sleep Train Arena Alternative Care Facility recently developed to handle hospital overflow in Sacramento, CA.
When asked how lessons from crew have impacted her work today? Ratanee shared, “Oh yeah, definitely! On top of the obvious is that people that have been in crew know team dynamics like no other, I think a lot about how crew definitely instilled a mentality in me that is really helpful for working in the field. In rowing you have that need to act in the moment to do the job that needs to be done. And in coxing in particular, you have that need to be whatever person you need to be to get your crew through the finish line. I draw on those things a lot, and I credit crew a lot for making me the person I am today.”
