Alumni,
Why I donate to UCD Crew/Friends of Davis Rowing:
As a rower (1999-2002) I rowed lightweights and JV, having great success during those years at WIRA and PCRC’s. One of the greatest highlights was winning the lightweight race at the San Diego Crew Classic! Champagne has never tasted so good as out of the trophy with that group of guys! While on the team I spent one year as the fundraiser and one year as the treasurer. After UC Davis, I started teaching in Sacramento and without a lot of extra cash, I decided to start giving what a could. When I started giving back to the crew, I gave $20/month to the Sean Thomas McGinity Fund. Every January (that I remembered), I increased my donation by $5/month (I figured I wouldn’t miss the extra $5 but it would really add up over time for the team). When the alumni association became a non-profit and made the push for donations, I switched the donations over to the alumni fund. Again this month, I increased my monthly donation and am now giving $50/month through PayPal (I haven’t noticed the difference). Just one way I figure I could help since I haven’t been able to make it out to a race or alumni day in a few years. My family and I now live in Avila Beach, and I continue to work in education, as the Director of a local charter school. I’d put it out there to everyone, that a little each month adds up to a lot of support for the team…start now…start small…and add a little bit to it each year!
